El Clot de Galvany or simply El Clot is a relatively small but interesting and beautiful nature reserve of 366 hectares, situated between the N-332 and the urbanizations of Gran Alacant near the Carabassi beach. In this eco-friendly area we find different kinds of birds such as ducks, storks and herons. Because hunting in El Clot de Galvany is forbidden, this nature reserve is a true paradise for bunnies. Along the way you can also come across amphibians and reptiles.

Clot de Galvany offers two hiking routes:

Route 1 goes through both natural and artificial ponds. Along the way you come across observation points where you can observe the aquatic animals in peace.

Route 2 takes its visitors in the direction of the hills of Cabeco-Carabassi which surround El Clot de Galvany. Here we find ourselves among palm trees, pine trees, bushes with thyme, lavender and rosemary. It is worthwhile to climb the hills to get a better view of the mountains and the wetlands. The military trenches and bunkers that cross our path are also surprising. These date from the Spanish civil war and were part of the defense line of the city of Alicante. The bunkers leave a certain impression and are worth the trouble to take a closer look. The central bunker is one of the largest and is located on an island in the middle of the central pond that is dry in the summer. Near Aula Natura we find a second bunker that was meant to protect the land. This bunker has a hidden entrance. In addition to a wooden lookout point there is a third bunker that is aimed at defending attacks from the sea.

At the information center is a large parking lot and picnic area. A path leads to the nature reserve from the main entrance. A walk of approximately 500 meters will take you to the Charco de Contacto pond. Well-marked trails lead you further through the reserve. El Clot de Galvany is not only popular with walkers but also a favorite place for cyclists and joggers. People with reduced mobility can enter the paths with some caution. Wheelchairs are not recommended on the steeper paths.
