The fact that there are many reservoirs in Spain is nothing new. Just think of the reservoir of Elche, Tibi, Guadalest, and so on. What makes the Pantano de Crevillente special is that the water level of this large freshwater basin is neither completely dependent on the rainfall in this area nor on the time of year. Of course, rainfall and the time of year play an important role, but it is mainly the conditions of the Rio Tajo River that prevail here. The Rio Tajo is a 1,008 kilometer long river that rises in eastern Spain and flows into the Atlantic Ocean near Lisbon, Portugal. The river covers a distance of 816 kilometers in Spain. The Pantano de Crevillente was built in 1985 in the dry bed of the Barranco del Boig or also called Barranco del Bosch. The area of the reservoir is 108 hectares. The gravity dam is 55 meters high and 360 meters long. The water collected here mainly serves as a regulator and stock for the irrigation of the agricultural areas nearby. The reservoirs of Elche, Tibi, Guadalest are beautiful and the Pantano de Crevillente is certainly not inferior to this. The position of the sun casts a different light on the mountains and the greenish blue water every time. You can easily park in the sand parking lot along the Circuito el Cossil. Via a sandy path you can visit the peninsula of the Pantano de Crevillente. Swimming in the reservoir is strongly discouraged due to the deep water which can often be surprisingly cold and can cause problems for even the most experienced swimmers.
