Castell de Castalla
Castell de Castalla
Castalla is a municipality with approximately 10.000 inhabitants. It is located approximately 25 km inland from Alicante.
Castalla Castle is one of the nicer castles in the region. It was built by the Moors in the 11th century and thoroughly renovated by the Christians in the 14th and 16th centuries. Over the past few hundred years, the building slowly declined until the municipality bought it and extensively restored it in 1989.
The castle can only be visited under supervision after reservation. Reservations and visits can sometimes be in English. A visit takes about 2 hours and leaves from the tourist office of Castalla. This is a spicy detail since the walk from the tourist office to the entrance of the castle is one long climb. Knowing that from the entrance gate to the castle itself is also a decent climb, we can only conclude that this excursion is only reserved for people with good mobility.
! on February 20, 2020, the municipality of Castalla reported that the castle is closed for an indefinite period due to work.
