Santuario de la Fuensanta
In the hills of the Sierra el Vally y Carrascoy lies el Santuario de la Fuensanta. This Santuario is home to la Virgen de la Fuensanta for most of the year. The Virgen is carried twice a year to the Cathedral of Murcia during a pilgrimage.
El Santuario de Nuestra Señora La Fuensanta dates from 1694 and was built on top of another religious building from the Middle Ages and near the source that has been known since 1356. The water from the well is said to have caused some miraculous healings in the past. The source was also the reason for the name of el Santuario de la Fuensanta. The building consisting of a wide middle section with side chapels and a large dome was erected in Baroque style. The entire interior was looted during the civil war. The last renovation took place in 1950. At the same time, in addition to el Santuario de la Fuensanta, the Benedictine monastery was also built. La Casa del Cabildo or Casa del Sacristán is higher up at a small distance next to El Santuario de la Fuensanta. It was built between the 17th and 19th century. The house was occupied by a so-called "caretaker" who was responsible for the Santuario de la Fuensanta. Today, el Santuario de la Fuensanta is a popular tourist destination. Not only because of the place of pilgrimage, but also because of the beautiful surroundings and the many hiking trails that leave here.
