Aquarium municipal de Santa Pola

On the Plaza de Fernandez Ordoñez, half hidden under the ground, is the oldest saltwater aquarium in the Comunidad Valencia. In 1996 the Aquarium Municipal opened its doors for the first time. If you want to get to know the underwater life along the coastline and around Tabarca you should definitely visit the Aquarium Municipal. 9 large aquariums have been installed in the central hall to show you the flora and fauna of the Mediterranean. All species that you see here such as seahorses, octopuses, turtles, sea bass and bream fish were caught by the fishermen of Santa Pola and donated to the aquarium. The water in the different aquariums comes directly from the sea and is pumped into the aquariums after treatment. The "used" water is filtered through various filter bins and then returns to the purification tanks where the cycle starts again.

If you also want to visit other sights of Santa Pola, you can buy a combi ticket for the aquarium together with Barco Museo or with Barco Museo and Museo del Mar.
